Track 0373: EGO THERAPY (Savage) 6:46* (BASCZAX) (14th July 1980) *includes lengthy introduction by presenters Lynn, Martin + 1 other.

Recorded: Tyne Tees TV Studios, Newcastle – 16 track studio down to mono for broadcast.
(Produced by Geoff Wonfor)
Broadcast on 3rd August 1979 (repeated on the 7th August 1979)
And so we come to the final Basczax song (well, for at least 30 years, spoiler alert!) and it comes from my very first appearance on television.
Tyne Tees “yoof” series Check It Out put a call out for local bands to appear on the new series, and we dutifully sent a tape off, expecting the usual rejection slip in the post.
To our delight we received a positive response, and on the 8th July we set up at The Barn (room 3) in Norton and played a short five song set to producer Geoff Wonfor, then an unknown, but nowadays a well known TV producer who made his name working on The Beatles Anthology.
He must have liked what he saw as we were asked to the studios in Newcastle to tape a song for the show.
The video is on YouTube if you want to look, we performed one of our newer songs “Ego Therapy”, I was sporting a glittery black number, whilst Mick borrowed a shiny blue shirt from me, as we all tried to look as glamorous as possible.
We performed well, although the sound engineer made a huge mistake by underestimating the power of Alan's drumming, consequently when he piles in after the introduction the levels shoot into the red for a while, spoiling the sound, but that was beyond our control.
After the end of the OMD tour the band really just coasted, and petty arguments between band members, particularly between Alan Cornforth and Jeff came to a head when on August 16th 1979 Jeff and Sav told me that they were throwing Alan out of the band. After a day or so of wrangling I decided to follow in Alan's footsteps and we were again both leaving a band around the same time, as had happened with Adamanta Chubb and Blitzkrieg Bop.
As far as gigs go, the band did go out on a high with a huge gig at Nottingham Theatre Royal supporting OMD, only a couple of grainy photographs survive, despite the fact that the whole show (including our performance) was filmed for a planned TV show.
I never saw the show, it may have never been screened (we weren't meant to be broadcast, our set was only filmed as a “test” for the OMD set) and diligent searches on the internet have failed to produce any footage.
