Track 0262: DOLE QUEUE BLUES (Hodgson/Blackwell) 2:12 (THE CURTAINS) (17th June 1978)
Musicians: John Hodgson – electric piano, Dimmer Blackwell – guitars
Recorded: Dimmer's Flat Studios, Stockton – 2 track reel-to-reel tape recorder
Five days later I spent a long weekend dossing at Dimmer's flat in Stockton. We had put aside any rancour from the Bop split and were firm friends once again. His wife Kay was in hospital having their first child, so the flat became a makeshift recording studio as I once again borrowed Mick Hylton's 2 track tape recorder for a marathon session that produced a full tape of songs, thirteen of which feature here.
First is a basic 12-bar instrumental in which Dimmer and I trade licks, the title was inspired by the fact that I was now on the dole after the Slaughter tour had finished, I wasn't too upset as at the time you got wage related pay for the first six months of unemployment, so I was drawing £24 a week, plenty for me to get by, plus I had just started working on the side at HMV Stockton, they couldn't pay me so I took 12 vinyl albums a week which help boost my collection.
