Track 0248: WE'LL THINK OF SOMETHING (Hodgson/Radford/Hylton/Cornforth) 3:51 (BLITZKRIEG BOP) (16th April 1978)
Musicians: John Hodgson – lead vocals, electric organ, Ray Radford – guitar, Mick Hytlon – bass guitar, Alan Cornforth – drums
Recorded Whinney Banks Youth Club – mono cassette recorder
The first three weeks of April were quiet on the gig front, mainly because the band were preparing for their upcoming national UK tour supporting Slaughter & The Dogs. They decamped at Whinney Banks to hone their set and add new material.
This song was considered lost for decades as no version existed in the archives, luckily Ray produced a cassette many years later of a rehearsal from the 16th April 1978.
It is a little distorted but the version here shows that the band were not afraid to shake off the creative restrictions that punk imposed, there is some blistering and inventive guitar work from Ray, and the music is leaning towards a “rockier” sound, and, dare I say it, prog rock pretensions. Clocking in at almost 4 minutes it is also one of the longest songs in Bop's catalogue.
