Track 0225: STREETCORNERS (Hodgson) 2:53 (BLITZKRIEG BOP) (14th December 1977)
Musicians: John Hodgson -lead vocals, Ray Radford – guitar, Mick Hylton – bass guitar, Alan Cornforth
Recorded: Bridge Hotel, Newcastle (live performance) stereo cassette recorder, 2 x remote microphones
The band played four gigs in December, a return to Bowes Wine Cellar for a fifth time, a trip up to The Rex Hotel in Whitley Bay supported by Neon, a headlining show at The Bridge Hotel in Newcastle, and a great gig at The Guildhall, Newcastle supporting Slaughter & The Dogs, where they enjoyed their first “rider” of a crate of beer and a buffet, which they threw around in true rock'n'roll fashion.
The only gig to be recorded was The Bridge Hotel, sadly most of the tape has been lost, but three complete songs remain in the archive, and as it was an excellent recording, they are all presented here.
The gig was reviewed in Sounds magazine by Phil Sutcliffe, he gave an honest account and had some reservations about where the band were going, exemplified by this excerpt from the review:

...Blank Frank, the singer, especially has a lot more to give (though even Iggy Pop would would slow down a bit in a deep freeze). His voice is strong but he looks a bit lost and uncommitted – in his head he believes, it's his physical self so far that can't give two fingers to little local difficulties and kick through the walls of inhibition. And he has a small synthesizer and dextrous fingers waiting to find a role. One solo in “Mental Case” showed how the BOF technological miracle could gain new life.
Blitzkrieg Bop play well and they're an enjoyable thirty pence worth but they are facing the New Wave crisis. For the first time its got to stop and think...

He was perceptive, as musically we were drifting, lacking focus and direction. We had a full set of “punk” songs, but what next? I wanted to feature my keyboards more prominently, and a wanted to write more commercial songs whilst retaining the power, I was thinking in a “power pop” mode just as it was becoming a thing.
