Track 0183: BEAT ON THE BRAT (Ramones) 2:46 (BLITZKRIEG BOP) (25th July 1977)
Musicians: John Hodgson – lead vocals, Ann Hodgson – guitar, Mick Hylton – bass guitar, Alan Cornforth – drums
Recorded: The Rock Garden, Middlesbrough (live performance) stereo cassette recorder (from mixing desk)
Five days after the Bowes gig, the “Let's Go” single finally arrived, and I spent a while looking at the sleeve, studying the vinyl, taking in the enormity of the event – I was on vinyl! Years of dreaming about such a moment, and it was here.
We wasted no time in posting review copies to the major music papers, and the response was incredible, particularly the New Musical Express. Tony Parsons was effusive:

...probably the best song written about the subject (about San Francisco), I wanna see this mob live, because nobody, well almost nobody, has heard of them, and they are good enough for six-figure recording contracts at the current rate of inflation...

Wow! That was one hell of a review, and the publicity it generated meant that we sold out all 500 copies of the single within a couple of weeks, with the Virgin chain of stores asking for 200 copies.
Although we were the first punk band in Teesside, at least the first one playing gigs and certainly the first to release a record, there were stirrings in other parts of Teesside, enough for The Rock Garden in Middlesbrough to arrange a “local band night” featuring four bands.
We were headlining, and the support was provided by Night Class, Dangerbird and Bladze. This and the following two tracks are taken from that evening, which, for Bop at least, was a triumph.
