Track 0164: HEART OF THE CITY (Lowe) 2:21 (BLITZKRIEG BOP) (5th June 1977)
Musicians: John Hodgson – lead vocals, Dimmer Blackwell – guitar, backing vocals, Ann Hodgson – rhythm guitar, Mick Hylton – bass guitar, Alan Cornforth – drums
Recorded: The Speedway Hotel, Middlesbrough (live performance) stereo cassette recorder + Heathkit mixer
Now the recording of the single was wrapped up, we concentrated on writing songs and learning still more cover versions. There were a few gigs lined up, and the next one was on the 5th June at The Speedway, the 7th in a residency that was becoming quite an event. Each time we played, the crowds grew, and more and more punks were turning up making for an electric atmosphere.
Of the 18 different songs played, only three were original compositions, the three songs that would appear on the single.
This classic new wave song from Nick Lowe, and the following three, were all taken from this gig.
