Track 0136: PALOOKA (Hodgson/Blackwell/Cornforth) 9:53 (ADAMANTA CHUBB) (c.March 1977)
Musicians: John Hodgson – synthesizer, Dimmer Blackwell – guitar, Alan Cornforth – drums
Recorded: The Barn, Norton (room 2) 2 x reel-to-reel tape recorders (7 ½ ips) + Heathkit mixer (produced by Alan Cornforth)
Once we were settled in the barn (actually a new barn, a few yards away from the original one that we used in 1975/6) we decided to set up the recording equipment again and resume capturing our music just as we had done the previous year.
The first song to be attempted was our favourite “jam” song, “Palooka” which was a strange thing to do as attempting a jam that was to be well recorded like this rendered it sterile as often the charm of a jam was its rough edges, using the recording equipment only served to exaggerate the mistakes.
Mick is absent on the bass guitar as at the time he was working for British Gas and travelled to Manchester during the week, returning to rehearse on the weekends.
