Track 0090: GYPSY (Byron/Box) 8:04 (ADAMANTA CHUBB) (p.January 1976)
Musicians: John Hodgson – synthesizers, electric organ, Dimmer Blackwell – guitars, Alan Cornforth – drums, lead vocals
Recorded: The Barn, Norton (room 1) 2 x reel-to-reel tape recorders (7 ½ ips) + Heathkit mixer (produced by Alan Cornforth)
The band came on in leaps and bounds with this song. A perennial stage favourite for Uriah Heep throughout the 1970's, it was also well liked by Chubb as it involved a lengthy keyboard solo and drum solo.
The musicianship went to the next level with the intricate intro proving no problem, and I even did a passable impressions of a competent synth player during the solo.
THINGS TO LISTEN OUT FOR: I have added some cool phasing effects at certain points when doing the remaster. I have also made some micro edits where the timing was a little out on the original performance. Yes, it's cheating, but I don't care.
