Track 0085: BLACK QUEEN (Hodgson/Blackwell) 4:26 (ADAMANTA CHUBB) (p.January 1976)
Musicians: John Hodgson – lead vocals, percussion, effects, Dimmer Blackwell – guitar, percussion, effects, Alan Cornforth – drums, percussion, effects, ring modulator
Recorded: The Barn, Norton (room 1) 2 x reel-to-reel tape recorders (7 ½ ips) + Heathkit mixer (produced by Alan Cornforth)
During research for this box set it became apparent that there were two attempts to record this song, when previously I thought it was a one-off.
Here is the first version, sadly only in mono, and the insanely distorted drums are the chief reason for it's rejection.
The song itself is an up-tempo rocker with a decent riff, but my lyrics are poor, as Alan pointed out to me at the time. The intention was to re-write the lyrics but it never happened.
