Track 0081: AC (ROCK & ROLL BAND) (Hodgson/Blackwell) 4:01 (ADAMANTA CHUBB) (early January 1976)
Musicians: John Hodgson – lead vocals, electric organ, Dimmer Blackwell – guitars, backing vocals, Alan Cornforth – drums, backing vocals
Recorded: The Barn, Norton (room 1) 2 x reel-to-reel tape recorders (7 ½ ips) + Heathkit mixer (produced by Alan Cornforth)
And so we move into 1976, a new year and a new approach for the band. Alan had acquired some recording equipment for Christmas, and we now had a Heathkit 6 into 2 mixer, an echo unit, and a second reel-to-reel tape recorder which, although didn't enable multi-track, was of sufficient quality to allow us to bounce one performance and add more instruments and vocals through the Heathkit mixer.
The first song to emerge was “AC (Rock & Roll Band)” which used a lyric of mine that told the story of the band, Dimmer and I wrote the music which is quite an unremarkable pop/rock tune that is rather predictable. The copy that has survived suffers from drop out but it marks a distinct improvement in the quality of our output, no longer content with raw rehearsal performances, we could now take our time and produce pseudo-studio recordings.
