Track 0006: IT'S ALL OVER NOW (Womack) 2:38 (PURITY) (c.August 1972)
Musicians: John Hodgson – piano, Michael Charlton – drums, lead vocals, Graham Lester – guitar, backing vocals
Recorded: Langley Studios (room 1) mono cassette recorder
Both Michael and I had a keen interest in music throughout the sixties, and we had similar tastes as well. British pop, and later, rock groups such as The Rolling Stones, Cream and Ten Years After.
By the early seventies however, Michael had developed a passion for soul and R&B, this was demonstrated by the choice of cover versions we attempted, and Bobby Womack's “It's All Over Now” was a typical example.
We try a novel arrangement that bears little resemblance to the original. Yet another “honorary” Purity member, Graham Lester, contributes some muted guitar and muttering. Three songs were taped during this particular session, with Graham getting a writing credit for the other two, “Roll Me Down” and “Scream Rock (Lester Bop)”, both of which are not of sufficient quality to be included here.
THINGS TO LISTEN OUT FOR: This song lasts about a minute longer than it should have because it was originally taped right at the end of side one of a C60 cassette, and I was determined to finish the side with this song, so towards the end the band tread water as I kept half an eye on the tape machine looking out for the white leader tape that would warn me to stop the song, alas I was too late and the song ends abruptly as the tape runs out.
